Blog On MSI 2016

If you had told me a year ago that I would have been attending a blogger conference, and rubbing shoulders with some of the UK’s most notable professional bloggers, I’d have probably laughed in your face. However, I found myself doing just that on May 1st this year! Thanks to a friend, I managed to get a ticket to the annual Blog On MSI. Taking place in the Museum of Science and Industry, Blog On is a conference run by Laura Seaton, that has been going for several years now, garnering more and more interest each year.

It was a very early start for me, leaving at 7 am to get the train to Deansgate, just to make sure I was there on time. Sunday service on the trains kills me. I did get there quite early, which allowed me some time to meet some lovely bloggers that were also early.

The conference itself was jam packed with amazing brands and agencies. Swizzels brought their ball pool (you know, the one that had recently hit the news) which was obviously my first stop.

With this being my first conference, I obviously had nothing to compare it to, but from what I hear, Blog On is going from strength to strength every year. The sessions were amazing, particularly the ones from Click Consult (How to make your blog more attractive to brands) and from Elizabeth (Pinterest 101). There were some great tips and tricks to take away, and I learned a great amount about SEO. If not anything else, it has really given me the push to finally go self-hosted, which I’ll probably do in a month or so!

Between sessions, we had plenty of opportunities to mingle with the many brands and PR groups that were there, including Smoking Gun PR, Type the Hype, Hotter Shoes, Esdevium Games, Click Consult, Canvas Holidays and many more. Although there were a lot of brands that weren’t particularly relevant to my kind of niche, it was pretty amazing to meet all these different companies.

Canvas Holidays were also running a competition for a £1500 holiday whilst we were there! All you had to do to be in with a chance to win was pack as many items into a suitcase as you could! I managed a measly 60 items, so that should give you some idea as to how rubbish I am with holiday packing!

One of my favourite sessions of the day was the session with Jess, Lucy and Isabel from Channel Mum. I’d never really had any interest in vlogging, and I just don’t have the confidence to do so. It just took a little reminding that anyone that vlogs will have started out like me, a nervous little newbie with a camera and no know-how.

I had such a great time at my first Blog On, from the networking opportunities to the glass of red wine from Echo Falls while watching the keynote speakers – Scummy Mummies. I also just want to say a huge thank you to Laura and everyone else involved for organising such a great event, and to all the brands that got involved with the not one, but three goodie bags that each attendee received. I mean seriously, look at all that stuff! AND THAT ISN’T EVEN ALL OF IT!
