Why I Love Christmas

Liverpool Christmas Tree

Christmas is probably my favourite time of year. It’s lovely and cold, sometimes rainy, and the dark nights are a perfect excuse for snuggling in front of the TV with a giant blanket.

I’m a massive winter baby. I hate the summer. It’s too hot, there are all kinds of insects and flying wasp demons, and did I mention it gets really hot and sticky? Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely love having daylight until nearly 10pm, but Winter is my fave. I love any excuse to get all wrapped up in a chunky knit scarf and gloves.

I’m one of those people that get psyched for Christmas probably around mid-November. The build up to Christmas is the best bit! Spending the evenings wandering around Christmas markets, visiting Ice Bars wrapped up in scarves and foil ponchos, mulled wine and gingerbread; So much festive fun spread over a month! I love shopping for presents for people, and wrapping them while watching ‘National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation’, a tradition of ours that I’ll talk more about later in the month.

All in all, besides the festive build up, my favourite thing about Christmas is giving presents. I know it sounds cliché, but I love making other people happy and seeing their faces when you give them an incredibly thoughtful gift. Whether that is a handmade lip scrub or a piece of jewellery they’ve talked about for weeks, giving someone else a present that I know they’ll love makes me extraordinarily happy.

I love taking a couple of days to catch up with family that I don't normally get to see, having a few drinks and playing board games. It's a fun change of pace from the busy lifestyle that we all normally lead, just taking a few days off to see friends and family.

What do you love about Christmas? Is there anything you do to make Christmas particularly special?

If you liked this, you'll love Christmas in Manchester.
